  Personnel from the State Grid Corporation have previously investigated the electric vehicle markets in Japan and the United States. In Tokyo, Japan, there are currently 87 charging stations; however, what is more commonly seen are charging piles in buildings and on roadsides; at Stanford University in California, there are parking spaces specifically for charging electric vehicles, with a charging pile between every two parking spaces.
  Industry insiders boldly predict that charging piles will be more popular and have greater development potential than charging stations in the future.
  “The market for charging piles is even more difficult to estimate. Buildings, residential areas, and parking lots are more convenient locations for the construction of charging piles,” said a relevant expert.
  However, for State Grid Corporation and other power companies, the construction of charging stations and charging piles still requires approval from relevant national departments. “Currently, the issue of who will invest in the construction of charging stations and charging piles remains unclear. In fact, this also requires industry entry thresholds, entry policies, and relevant regulations.”
  Charging piles have advantages in terms of less land occupation, lower cost, and ease of use (expecting breakthroughs in battery technology)
  “A mobile phone battery is so small, yet it can last for two days; however, cars are driven every day, so how large of a battery is needed? Currently, there are no leading technology suppliers in China. From this perspective, there is a gap in the market,” said personnel from the State Grid Corporation. They believe that the State Grid Corporation is currently cooperating with BYD, hoping to gain a leading advantage in future battery energy storage technology.
  Looking to the future, if electric energy can be stored in batteries and then used during peak electricity consumption, it will greatly alleviate China's electricity shortage problem. At the same time, achieving decentralized electricity use, reducing carbon emissions, and using cleaner energy is a more beautiful blueprint for the State Grid Corporation.
  Charging piles have advantages in terms of less land occupation, lower cost, and ease of use. After solving the battery technology issue, charging stations may appear across the country in the near future.
